El tercer volumen del HMW describe m\u00e1s de 470 especies: 138 especies de prosimios\u2014l\u00e9mures, g\u00e1lagos, loris, potos y tarseros en \u00c1frica y Asia; 156 especies propias de los tr\u00f3picos del Nuevo Mundo; otras 158 de los tr\u00f3picos del Viejo Mundo; y 25 antropoides, los 19 gibones y los 6 grandes simios (chimpanc\u00e9s, gorilas y orangutanes). Gran parte de esta extraordinaria diversidad ha sido descubierta tan s\u00f3lo hace dos d\u00e9cadas y, por ejemplo, en la d\u00e9cada de 1980 se contabilizaban \u00fanicamente 180 especies.
