It is used most importantly for the EU&#8217;s official list of birds, which guides the <a href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/environment\/nature\/legislation\/birdsdirective\/index_en.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Birds Directive<\/a>, whose goal is to protect all of the wild bird species naturally occurring in the European Union.
